Somatic Therapy and Mental Health Support
Fringe Healing provides an alternative approach to trauma treatment and emotional wellness. I offer somatic therapy services for adults and children, in an environment free from the harmful regulations and “policies” (policing) that govern more traditional approaches to mental healthcare.
My practice is flexible, body-based, and creative.
My services are available online, in English or Spanish, anywhere in the world.
I am deeply passionate about this work, and I look forward to sharing it with you!
Maggie Gelen, LMSW
I specialize in trauma-informed somatic therapy, meaning that my practice is a fusion of various psychotherapeutic techniques combined with body-based methods such as breathwork, guided meditation, and movement. I'm also an artist, and I enjoy playing with more creative approaches that highlight each person's unique intuitive gifts.
My practice is informed by over 8 years of experience working with survivors of trauma, including families affected by police brutality, survivors of sexual assault, and refugees who have been impacted by war and terrorism. I also draw on over a decade of personal practice in various mindfulness techniques, and a lifelong relationship with the creative arts.
Why “Healing” and not “Therapy”?
I founded Fringe Healing after several years of working in the mental health industry as a licensed social worker and psychotherapist. Over time, the systemic abuses within this industry became impossible to ignore, and I felt the need to make a change. I realized that as a therapist, I was often compelled to prioritize the interests of the state, the criminal justice system, or the insurance industry over the wellbeing of my clients.
Fringe Healing, technically a “life coaching” service, is my effort to continue doing the work that I love without compromising my morals. In order to practice outside of the state-imposed restrictions that come along with licensure, I am now practicing under the title of “life coach” rather than “therapist”. This gives me the freedom to truly center my clients’ needs and act in their best interest, rather than in the interest of a system that seeks to profit off of them.
What is Somatic Therapy?
An approach to healing that combines more traditional elements of psychotherapy with body-based practices such as breathing techniques, guided meditation, and movement.
